Technology Tree Monthly Update (February 2021)

Technology Tree delivering our latest edition of updates, ideas and collaborations.

Hello from the team @ Technology Tree

Hello 2021! We hope that everyone had a wonderful, restful break and is ready for whatever the new year throws our way. Our office was briefly closed during the Perth lockdown but, luckily, all staff were able to work from home due to being a cloud-based business and using portable Microsoft Surface devices.

This month the team at Technology Tree continue to work extra hard to provide quality service to our clients as work is ramping up. We’ve recently welcomed Amy Lindsay to the team as Office Administrator. Amy has a certificate IV in Business Administration as well as administration and customer service experience in a wide range of industries.

You may have noticed a new badge on our email signature; Technology Tree is now Surface Modern Solutions Program (SMSP) certified. What does this mean for you and your business? Surface devices are purpose-built for zero-touch deployment and are optimised to provide straightforward and hassle-free experience. As participants in SMSP, Technology Tree can assist you with choosing the right Surface device for your business.

HOT TIPS & TRICKS!

  1. Hide all your Desktop icons

Instead of deleting desktop icons to free up space, Windows allows you to remove them temporarily. To hide all desktop icons right-click on the blank space on the desktop and select View > Show desktop icons. Repeat process to show icons again.

2. Hidden start Menu

Windows 10 has a hidden Start Menu! To access the secret start menu, press the Windows Key + X button. Or else, you can right-click on the Start menu to open the secondary start menu.

3. Take a screenshot

This is a common known feature but also commonly used and therefore worthy of being on the tips list. To capture a screenshot, you need to hit the Windows Key + Print Screen Key. Once done, the picture will be saved to the Pictures > Screenshots folder.

REMINDER!

Windows Users
It is very important to ensure your devices are being updated which should be happening automatically even whilst working from home, depending on your home internet. Most of you should have the latest Windows 10 version 2009 (20H2). If you want to know more about what is new in this version click here. We are now seeing that most modern devices are now supported including the new surface models.

Patch Tuesday: Microsoft regularly releases software patches usually every second Tuesday of every month for its software products. Please make sure you apply and restart you computer this week to have these updates applied to your device. For those of you who we managed under a service agreement we will be monitoring and will be in touch if they’re not being applied.

How to update: Allow yourself at least 10 – 15 minutes to fully shutdown and restart your system. This ensures patches are applied, this can also address (and solve) some problems you may be having with your system. You can also manually check by following steps that can be found here.

Important Major Update for iOS & watchOS

The minimum iOS system requirements for Outlook for iOS and watchOS has changed. Outlook for iOS is supported on the two most recent versions of iOS. Now that iOS has been released, the minimum system requirements for Microsoft Outlook is iOS 13.

Additionally, Microsoft will remove support for watchOS 4 and 5. WatchOS 6 and 7 is the only supported versions for Apple Watch.

How does this affect me?
Due to the release of iOS 14, Outlook devices running iOS 12, or lower will no longer receive office app updates. This change does not affect anyone using Outlook for iOS apps on iOS 13 or above.

What do I need to do to prepare for this change?

Ensure you have upgraded to the latest version for your device as per below;
